Kanow is a visual, kinetic artist living and working in Telluride. Kanow creates dynamic and contemplative works using paint and mixed media – including acrylics, oils, canvas, wood, plexiglass, and various non-traditional tools. Kanow’s muses are the people in his life, such as his family and students, and he embraces Asian philosophical and spiritual concepts in his creative process, such as detachment, impermanence, creation and destruction, and beautiful imperfection. When he is interacting with and producing an artwork, Kanow has an energy-invested and dynamic practice – sometimes elevated and physically demanding, and other times deeply grounded and spiritual.

Inspiration

Beautiful open spaces, my family, my friends, and my students are my muses that inspire me to create art.

Techniques

I love painting, drawing, and mixed media sculpture. Oil painting with brushes, knives and non-traditional tools plus drawing with charcoal are my main means of creative 2-dimensional expression. I also enjoy working with wax, metal, and clay.

Giving Back

To Give Back, 10% of all sales are divided between three non-profits: Seas of Trees, the Centro Maya Project, and JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Seas of Trees plants trees with teens to help offset climate change. The Centro Maya Project works with indigenous Mayan Indians at Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, to assist with education and food scarcity. JDRF works tirelessly to fund and find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
